Abdul Latif (criminal)
Abdul Latif was underworld gangster of Gujarat and a Dawood Ibrahim associate. He was based in Ahmedabad and was politically well networked. Once he contested the Ahmedabad municipal elections and won from five seats simultaneously. He was arrested in 1995 from Delhi and was housed at the Sabarmati jail pending trial. In November 1997 when Shankarsinh Vaghela was the Chief minister Abdul Latif was shot dead by the police in Ahmedabad while allegedly trying to escape. 〔http://www.rediff.com/news/nov/29latif.htm〕
